Origin: A borrowing from German. Etymon: German Uranit.
Etymology: < German Uranit (M. H. Klaproth 1789, in Bergmännisches Jrnl. 2 923) < Uranus Uranus n. (then newly discovered) + -it -ite suffix1. Compare French uranite (1789). Compare also uranium n. and discussion at that entry.
