Origin: A borrowing from German. Etymon: German Uramil.
Etymology: < German Uramil (F. Wöhler & J. Liebig 1838, in Ann. der Pharm. 26 269) < ur- (in Urea urea n.) + am- (in Ammoniak ammoniac n.) + -il (perhaps a variant of -yl -yl suffix). Compare French uramile (1838).
Chemistry.
A crystalline compound obtained by hydrolysing alloxantin, murexide, and some related compounds. Also called dialuramide, murexan.Systematic name: 5-aminobarbituric acid; C4H5N3O3.
