Etymology: < the name of Harry Lawson Webster Levy-Lawson, first Viscount Burnham (1862–1933), who was chairman of the Standing Joint Committee of Education Authorities and Teachers, set up on the 12th Sept. 1919.
Applied to the scale of teachers' salaries, etc., recommended by the Burnham Committee and periodically revised.
