单词 unrevocable
释义

unrevocableadj.

Brit. /ʌnˈrɛvəkəb(ə)l/, U.S. /ˌənrəˈvoʊkəb(ə)l/, Scottish English /ʌnˈrɛvəkəb(ə)l/
Forms: 1500s vnreuocable, 1600s– unrevocable; Scottish pre-1700 unrevocabill, pre-1700 vnreuocabill, pre-1700 vnreuocable, pre-1700 vnreuocabul, pre-1700 vnrevocable, pre-1700 vnrevocabyll, pre-1700 wnreuocabill, pre-1700 1700s– unrevocable.
Origin: Probably formed within English, by derivation; perhaps partly modelled on a Latin lexical item. Etymons: un- prefix1, revoke v., -able suffix; un- prefix1, revocable adj.
Etymology: Originally probably < un- prefix1 + revoke v. + -able suffix, perhaps after classical Latin irrevocābilis irrevocable adj.; compare slightly later revocable adj. In later use perhaps independently < un- prefix1 + revocable adj.Compare also the form unrevokable , which is occasionally attested from the 17th cent. onward, and may show a distinct formation < un- prefix1 + revokable adj.; the corresponding adverbial form unrevokably is also occasionally attested from the 19th cent. onward (compare unrevocably adv.).
Originally Scottish. Now somewhat rare.
Irrevocable.
