单词 unquartered
释义

unquarteredadj.

Brit. /(ˌ)ʌnˈkwɔːtəd/, /(ˌ)ʌŋˈkwɔːtəd/, U.S. /ˌənˈkwɔrdərd/
Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: un- prefix1, quartered adj.
Etymology: < un- prefix1 + quartered adj. With sense 2 compare un- prefix1 10b.In quotations a1602 and 1654 at sense 2 translating Hellenistic Greek τετραχηλισμένα in Hebrews 4:13. This is in fact the passive perfect participle of ancient Greek τραχηλίζειν to bend the neck, (passive) to be laid open ( < τράχηλος neck: see trachelo- comb. form), but it is possible that it may have been interpreted as derived from τετραχῇ fourfold.
