单词 bunion
释义

bunionn.

Brit. /ˈbʌnjən/, U.S. /ˈbənjən/
Forms: Also 1700s bunnian, 1800s bunnion, bunyan, bunyon.
Etymology: Of obscure etymology; probably connected with bunny n.1 Prof. Skeat regards it as < Italian bugnone ‘a push, a bile, a blane, a botch’ (Florio 1598), < bugno = Old French bugne (? whence bunny); this suits the form, but the word was until recently so rare in literary use that derivation < Italian seems very unlikely.
An inflamed swelling on the foot, esp. of the bursa mucosa at the inside of the ball of the great toe; see quot. 1876.
