Etymology: < modern Latin ūnilaterālis, or < uni- comb. form + lateral adj. Compare French unilatéral (1804), Spanish unilateral, Portuguese unilateral, Italian unilaterale.
I. Physical uses: relating to one side only.

a. Botany. Of a raceme or panicle: having the flowers on one side of the peduncle. Also, of a cyme: Having a branch or axis on one side only.
