Primary stress is retained by the usual stressed syllable of the preceding element, e.g. stoot kind Brit. /ˈstʊt kʌɪnd/, U.S. /ˈstut ˌkaɪnd/, Scottish English /ˈstut kʌin(d)/.
Forms: 1700s 2000s– kind, 1800s– kin', 1800s– kyne, 1900s– kin, 2000s– kyn.
Origin: Formed within English, by conversion. Etymon: kind n.

Scottish (chiefly north-eastern).
Added to adjectives as a moderator, with the sense ‘somewhat, rather, to some extent’. Cf. -ish suffix1 3.
