释义

Brunswickern.

Brit. /ˈbrʌnzwɪkə/, U.S. /ˈbrənzˌwɪkər/
Forms: 1500s Brunswyker, 1600s– Brunswicker.
Origin: Perhaps of multiple origins. Partly from a proper name, combined with an English element, perhaps modelled on a German lexical item. Partly formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: proper name Brunswick , -er suffix1; English Brunswick Club , -er suffix1.
Etymology: In sense 1 < the name of the city of Brunswick in Germany (see Brunswick n.) + -er suffix1, perhaps after German Braunschweiger person born or resident in Brunswick (1547 or earlier; 1536 or earlier as adjective in sense ‘of, relating to, or originating from Brunswick’). In sense 2 < the name of the Brunswick Club (see Brunswick Club n. at Brunswick n. 6) + -er suffix1.
