Etymology: < German Brunsvigit (J. Fromme 1902, in Tschermak's Mineralogische und petrographische Mittheilungen 21 171; < post-classical Latin Brunsviga (16th cent. or earlier), Latinized form of the name of Brunswick (see Brunswick n.) + German -it -ite suffix¹), with remodelling of the ending after -ite suffix¹.

Mineralogy.

A blackish-green mineral of the chlorite group, originally identified in gabbro from Lower Saxony, Germany, and usually regarded as a magnesian variety of chamosite.
