Brownien.3

Brit. /ˈbraʊni/, U.S. /ˈbraʊni/
Origin: Apparently a variant or alteration of another lexical item. Etymon: brownie n.1
Etymology: Apparently a specific use of brownie n.1, with allusion particularly to the popular cartoon characters of this name depicted by the Canadian illustrator Palmer Fox; early Kodak Brownie cameras bore illustrations resembling these characters on their outer packaging, and were also advertised using such illustrations. However, compare also the name of Frank A. Brownell , the inventor of this type of camera, and -y suffix6; a punning allusion may have been intended. The Kodak Brownie camera was introduced in 1900 and soon became very popular. Its main advantages over the first type of camera developed by Kodak were its low price and the fact that the film could be removed from the camera box after taking pictures and developed either by authorized stockists or even at home. Brownie cameras were extensively marketed as suitable for children.
