单词 twofold
释义

twofoldadj.n.adv.

Brit. /ˈtuːfəʊld/, U.S. /ˈtuˌfoʊld/
Forms: α. Middle English– Scottish, twafald, Middle English Scottish twa faulde, 1800s Scottish twafauld, ( twa-fall). β. Middle English twouold; Middle English two-folde, 1500s two folde, twofoulde, 1600s twofolde; Middle English–1500s two fold, 1600s–1800s two-fold, 1600s– twofold.
Etymology: apparently originally a refashioning of twifold adj. and adv., after two adj., n., and adv.; in later use perhaps independently < two adj., n., and adv. + -fold suffix.
A. adj. (and n.)
