Origin: Either (i) formed within English, by derivation. Or (ii) a borrowing from early Scandinavian. Etymons: un- prefix1 1, bain adj.
Etymology: < un- prefix1 1 + bain adj., or < Old Norse úbeinn not straight, crooked (Norwegian ubein crooked, awkward).Previous versions of the OED give the stress as: unˈbain.
Now only dialect.
