Etymology: < Yiddish bris < Hebrew bĕrīṯ covenant, short for bĕrīṯ milā covenant of circumcision (see brit milah n.). Compare earlier brit n.2
Judaism.
The ceremony in which a Jewish male is circumcised, traditionally performed on his eighth day of life; = brit milah n.
