Also simply tumbu. A fly, Cordylobia anthropophaga, with a yellow body and grey markings, found in sub-Saharan Africa, where its larva is a subcutaneous parasite of man and other animals. Also used attributively and absol. to designate the skin disease caused by the larva, esp. as tumbu disease or tumbu sickness.
