Origin: Apparently formed within English, by conversion. Etymon: tusky adj.
Etymology: Apparently < tusky adj., perhaps so called on account of the appearance of the rhubarb stalks (compare tusky adj. b). Eng. Dial. Dict. (1905) at tusky sb. records an earlier obsolete (and apparently unrelated) use in sense ‘a straw hat’ in West Yorkshire.
English regional (Yorkshire).
As a mass noun: rhubarb; sticks of rhubarb as a foodstuff.Also (and in earliest use) attributive.
