单词 broo
释义

broon.

Etymology: In 15th cent. brō ; whence regularly in modern Scots pronunciation, /brøː/, /bryː/. Of uncertain origin: perhaps < Old French bro , breu , broth (whence diminutive brouez , brouet ). Often identified with bree n.1; but if this were correct, broo not bree would be the original, since do, boots, shoon, become in the north-east of Scotland dee, beets, sheen, not the converse. It is hardly possible to connect the 15th cent. broo with modern German brühe or Flemish brui, bruw.
Scottish.
Broth; liquor; juice, water; = bree n.2 2, 3.
