Etymology: < post-classical Latin tropologicus allegorical (4th cent. in Jerome) < Byzantine Greek τροπολογικός allegorical (5th cent.) < Hellenistic Greek τροπολογία tropology n. + -ικός -ic suffix. Compare Middle French, French tropologique (a1372), Spanish tropológico (1424), Italian tropologico (14th cent.). Compare later tropological adj.
= tropological adj. (in both senses).
