单词 trichloro-
释义

trichloro-comb. form

Stress is usually determined by a subsequent element and vowels may be reduced accordingly. If the subsequent element is an existing word, it is likely to retain its original stress pattern, e.g. trichlorophenol Brit. /trʌɪˌklɔːrəʊˈfiːnɒl/, U.S. /traɪˌklɔroʊˈfiˌnɔl/, /traɪˌklɔroʊˈfiˌnɑl/.
Forms: before a vowel also trichlor-.
Etymology: < tri- comb. form 3c + chloro- comb. form2.
Chemistry.
A formative analogous to tribromo- comb. form, expressing the substitution of three atoms of chlorine for hydrogen, as in trichlorobenzene, C6H3Cl3; so trichloracetic acid, CCl3.CO2H, etc. Also triˌchlorocetˈaldehyde n. (also ˌtrichloracetˈaldehyde) = chloral n.
