Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French truffière.
Etymology: < French truffière (1749 in this sense) < truffe truff n.1 + -ière , feminine form corresponding to -ier -ier suffix.
An area of land where truffles are found, esp. one that has been cultivated to produce truffles; a truffle ground or plantation. Cf. earlier truffle bed n. at truffle n. Compounds 2.Not fully naturalized in English.
