单词 troper
释义

tropern.

Brit. /ˈtrəʊpə/, U.S. /ˈtroʊpər/
Forms: Old English–Middle English tropere, Middle English tropure, Middle English 1700s tropar, Middle English 1700s– troper.
Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Probably also partly a borrowing from French. Etymons: Latin troparium; French troper, tropier.
Etymology: Originally < post-classical Latin troparium, troperium (for both, see tropary n.). In later use probably < Anglo-Norman troper (1119), variant of Anglo-Norman and Old French tropier (12th cent.) < post-classical Latin troparium tropary n. With the form tropure compare discussion at -or suffix. It has been suggested that the following quot. shows a transmission error for the present word, but it appears much more likely that it shows an error for tapour , variant of taper n.1:c1450 (?a1400) Wars Alexander (Ashm.) l. 1568 Þar passis þe procession a piple be-forne Of childire all in chalk quyte..Sum with sensours..With tablis & topoures [perh. read tropoures or tapoures; a1500 Trin. Dublin tapers] & tretice of þe lawe..Sum candilstickis of clere gold & of clene siluer.
