Etymology: < Old French brouder, broder to stitch, embroider; but, from the beginning, its past participle brouded , browded , was evidently associated with the native browden adj., past participle of braid v.1, owing to contiguity of form and meaning. Compare brawde v., broid v., broider v.French broder is a Common Romanic verb, Provençal broydar, Spanish bordar to embroider.
