Origin: Formed within English, by derivation. Etymons: brother n., -head suffix.
Etymology: < brother n. + -head suffix. Compare earlier brotherred n. and see note at that entry on ambiguous forms. Compare slightly later brotherhood n., and also earlier brothership n.Forms with e (or i ) in the first syllable are apparently after plural forms of brother n. (compare forms at that entry).
Obsolete.
