单词 trans*
释义

trans*adj.

Brit. /tranz/, /tran(z)ˈstɑː/, /tranzˈastərɪsk/, U.S. /trænz/, /ˌtræn(z)ˈstɑr/, /ˌtrænzˈæstərɪsk/; Originally a graphic abbreviation. When spoken, the * is variably silent or pronounced as above.
Origin: Formed within English, by conversion. Etymons: trans- prefix, transsexual adj., transgender adj.
Etymology: < trans- prefix (in e.g. transsexual adj. and transgender adj.) + the asterisk symbol (used in computing as a wild card that will match any combination of characters in a search: see asterisk n. 3(b)). Compare earlier trans adj. With the more inclusive uses compare trans- prefix 4.
= trans adj. 1; originally used to include explicitly both transsexual and transgender, or (now usually) to indicate the inclusion of gender identities such as gender-fluid, agender, etc., alongside transsexual and transgender.
