Etymology: < trans- prefix 5 + Latin pulmo, pulmōn-em lung: compare pulmonary.Previous versions of the OED give the stress as: transˈpulmonary.
Acting or operated through the lungs: said of the respiration in birds, in which the lungs are connected with large air-sacs, into and out of which the air passes through the lungs. transpulmonary pressure, the difference between the pressure in the lungs and that in the intrapleural cavity.
