Music.
A transverse flute of a type developed and introduced to European music during the Baroque period, typically being made of wood and formed of three or four jointed sections, with a tapering bore and a single key to close the last hole; a baroque flute as distinguished from a modern orchestral flute. Cf. flauto traverso n., traversière n.
