Etymology: < traverse n. + table n.
1. A table used in navigation and surveying to find course and distance from the difference of latitude and departure (departure n. 7a) (or vice versa), or the difference of longitude from departure (or vice versa).Such tables are based on trigonometrical calculations involving right angled-triangles in which course and distance form the hypotenuse.
