Origin: A borrowing from German. Etymon: German Transitivismus.
Etymology: < German Transitivismus ( C. Wernicke Grundriss der Psychiatrie in klinischen Vorlesungen (ed. 2, 1900) xix. 226, the passage translated in quot. 1902) < transitiv transitive adj. (perhaps compare sense 3 at that entry) + -ismus -ism suffix.

A mental state or condition in which a person is unable to distinguish his or her own experiences and sensations from those of others.
