1977 A. V. Bogdan Trop. Pasture & Fodder Plants 402 Stylosanthes humilis was known as Townsville lucerne until about 1968–9 when the Queensland Herbage Plant Liaison Committee recommended that the name should be changed to Townsville stylo in order to avoid confusion with species of Medicago.
