Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymons: Latin trādēns, trādere.
Etymology: < classical Latin trādēns, trādent-, present participle of trādere to hand over, deliver (see tradit v.). In sense 3 perhaps via German Tradent (mid 19th cent. or earlier; also in sense ‘person who transfers property’ (18th cent. or earlier)). Compare earlier traditor n.
