Also: the homologous bone of the chest in other vertebrates; (occasionally) the wishbone (furcula) in birds.In Old English (and early Middle English) translating post-classical Latin pectusculum, diminutive of classical Latin pectus breast, chest, probably referring to the part of the anterior wall of the chest containing the sternum, as well as to the bone itself.
