Etymology: < toast n.1 + rack n.4 2.Previous versions of the OED give the stress as: ˈtoast-rack.
A contrivance for holding dry toast, keeping each piece on edge and separate. Also transferred, a vehicle, esp. a tram, having full-width seats and (usually) open sides; also attributive.
