释义

toile de soien.

Brit. /twɑːl də ˈswɑː/, U.S. /ˌtwɑl də ˈswɑ/
Inflections: Plural toiles de soie.
Origin: A borrowing from French. Etymon: French toile de soie.
Etymology: < French toile de soie (15th cent. in Middle French in the sense ‘cloth made of silk’) < toile cloth (see toil n.2) + de de prep. + soie silk (see soy n.2).Although quot. 1830 appears to suggest that the term originated in Germany, German (rare) Toile de soie does not appear to be attested before the late 19th cent. In plural form toiles de soie after the French plural form.
Any of various fabrics made from weaving silk with another material such as cotton or wool.
