释义

Tom Fullern.

Origin: A borrowing from Choctaw. Etymon: Choctaw ta̱fula.
Etymology: < Choctaw ta̱fula (pronounced /tãfola/, i.e. with a nasal vowel in the first syllable) hominy, (now also sometimes) hominy cooked with meat. The two-word forms apparently show folk-etymological reinterpretation after the male forename Tom (see Tom n.1) and (in later use also) the common surname Fuller (compare discussion at fuller n.1).
U.S. regional (chiefly Oklahoma). Now chiefly historical.
