单词 tomo
释义

tomon.

Brit. /ˈtəʊməʊ/, U.S. /ˈtoʊˌmoʊ/, New Zealand English /ˈtʌumʌu/
Origin: Of uncertain origin.
Etymology: Origin uncertain; since Maori tomo is apparently not attested in the topographical senses ‘depression, hole, cave’, the English word is perhaps a back-formation < the Maori place name Waitomo, interpreted as ‘water caves’ (compare Maori wai water), or is perhaps based on either Maori tomo to enter, or tomoau abyss.
New Zealand.
A deep depression or hole in the ground formed by erosion in limestone terrain.
