Origin: Either (i) a borrowing from Latin, combined with an English element. Or (ii) a borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Etymons: Latin achromos , -ous suffix; Greek ἄχρωμος , -ous suffix.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin achromos (4th cent.) or its etymon ancient Greek ἄχρωμος colourless (see achromic adj.) + -ous suffix. Compare earlier achromatous adj., and also achromatistous adj. and achroous adj. Compare also earlier achromic adj.

Uncoloured; colourless. Cf. achromatistous adj.
