Etymology: < bread, variant of brede n.3 + wort n.1In later use the first element was sometimes mistakenly identified with bread n. (compare quot. 1849).
Obsolete.
Any of several knotgrasses of (or formerly included in) the genus Polygonum, esp. common knotgrass, P. aviculare.
