Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin aerumnōsus.
Etymology: < classical Latin aerumnōsus afflicted with suffering, wretched, distressed, causing distress < aerumna toil, trouble, affliction, distress (of uncertain origin) + -ōsus -ous suffix. Compare Middle French erumpne (1492), erumne (1545), eromne (16th cent.), all in sense ‘trouble, affliction’.
Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
Troubled; distressed.
