Etymology: < French adipocire (A. F. Fourcroy 1791, in Ann. de chim. 8 68) < adipo- adipo- comb. form + cire wax (see cere n.); in form adipocere with remodelling of the second element after post-classical Latin cēra (see cere n.).Fourcroy later claimed to have coined the term as early as 1786, but this cannot be confirmed from printed sources.
