Compare earlier Tiburtine adj. and slightly later travertine n.Compare Middle French pierre tivertine (1556 or earlier; < Italian).

Obsolete.

A white or light-coloured concretionary limestone used in building, formed by the precipitation of calcium carbonate from springs, or from ground or surface water; = travertine n. More fully Tivertine stone.Chiefly in the context of Italian architecture.
