Stress is usually determined by a subsequent element and vowels may be reduced accordingly. Some degree of stress is always maintained on the second syllable. If the subsequent element is an existing word, it is likely to retain its original stress pattern, e.g. titanico-hydric Brit. /tʌɪˌtanᵻkəʊˈhʌɪdrɪk/, U.S. /taɪˌtænəkoʊˈhaɪdrɪk/.
Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin titanico-.
Etymology: < scientific Latin titanico- (formations in which are found in the early 19th cent.).Found in a small number of adaptations of scientific Latin compounds in the 19th cent. In titanico-hydric after scientific Latin titanico-hydricus (1834 or earlier in Berzelius); compare French titanico-hydrique (1834 or earlier).
Chemistry. rare.
Forming adjectives (esp. in the names of double salts) indicating the presence of titanium in a compound, as titanico-hydric, titanico-sodium, etc.
