Origin: A borrowing from Latin. Etymon: Latin adiapneustia.
Etymology: < post-classical Latin adiapneustia (1562 or earlier) < Hellenistic Greek ἀδιαπνευστία (Galen) < ἀδιάπνευστος not ventilated ( < ἀ- a- prefix6 + διαπνευστός easily dissipated, volatile < δια- dia- prefix1 + -πνευστος : see -pneustic comb. form) + -ία -ia suffix1. Compare earlier diapnoe n. N.E.D. (1884) gives the pronunciation as (æ:diăpniū·stiă) /ˌædɪəpˈnjuːstɪə/.
Obsolete. rare. Apparently only attested in dictionaries or glossaries.
Diminished or absent perspiration.
