Etymology: < Tagalog tiniklíng, < tiklíng the Philippine rail; the infix -in- (normally denoting the past passive) in this case signifies that the dance is done ‘in the manner of’ the rail bird, i.e. mimicking its cautious, jerky gait.
A Philippine folk-dance in which the dancer (traditionally a woman) steps between two long wooden poles (representing a bird-trap) held near the floor and drawn together and apart to the rhythm of the music.
