Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with an English element. Etymons: Greek ἀχρώματος , -ic suffix.
Etymology: < ancient Greek ἀχρώματος colourless ( < ἀ- a- prefix6 + χρῶματ- , χρῶμα colour: see chrome n.) + -ic suffix. Compare post-classical Latin achromaticus (1768 or earlier), French achromatique (1764), German achromatisch (1775 or earlier).
