Origin: A borrowing from Greek, combined with English elements. Etymons: Greek θρόμβος , -o- connective, -gen comb. form.
Etymology: < ancient Greek θρόμβος lump, clot of blood, curd of milk (see thrombus n.) + -o- connective + -gen comb. form. Compare thrombogenic adj. In sense A. 2 after German Thrombogen (1903 or earlier).
A. n. Biochemistry.
1. An enzyme that causes the formation of curds; a rennin. Cf. thrombogenic adj. 1. Obsolete. rare.
