单词 bosniak
释义

Bosniakn.adj.

Brit. /ˈbɒznɪak/, U.S. /ˈbɑzniˌæk/, /ˈbɔzniˌæk/
Forms: 1600s Bosnack, 1600s–1700s Bosnac, 1700s Bosniack, 1700s Bosnique, 1700s– Bosniac, 1800s– Bosniak.
Origin: A borrowing from Bosnian. Etymon: Bosnian Bošnjak.
Etymology: < Bosnian Bošnjak inhabitant of Bosnia (15th cent.) < the stem of Bosna name of the country (see Bosnian n.) + -j- , suffix + -ak , suffix forming nouns (compare Rusnak n., Polack n., Slovak n.). Compare earlier Bosnian n. and other Bosnian formations cited at that entry. Compare post-classical Latin Bosniacus , noun and adjective (1682 or earlier; probably reinterpreted as < Bosnia , the name of the country + -acus -ac suffix; compare Armeniacus Armeniac adj., Syriacus Syriac adj. and n.), French Bosniaque, noun and adjective (also †Bosnac, †Bosnaque; 1695 or earlier), German Bosniak, noun (1737 or earlier), Ottoman Turkish Boşnak.Form Bosniac probably results from reinterpretation as showing -ac suffix.
A. n.
A Bosnian; (now) spec. a Bosnian Muslim. After the Wars of Yugoslav Succession (1991–5), Bosniak became the usual appellation of Bosnian Muslims, and is now largely restricted to this meaning; inhabitants of Bosnia considered without regard to religious and ethnic identification are usually referred to as Bosnians.
