Etymology: Apparently < boy n.1 + -age suffix, although compare also age n. and man-age n.1, nonage n.1, adultage n. Compare earlier boyhood n., boyery n. N.E.D. (1887) gives the pronunciation as (boi·ėdʒ) /ˈbɔɪɪdʒ/.
