Origin: Formed within English, by conversion; originally modelled on a Greek lexical item. Etymon: theoretic adj.
Etymology: < theoretic adj. (see -ic suffix 2), originally after Byzantine Greek θεωρητικά, plural noun. Compare earlier theoretic n.The author of quot. 1670 claims to be translating Ammonius' commentary on the Categories of Aristotle, but is in fact translating a commentary on this work by the Byzantine author John Philoponus.
