An amino acid which is found primarily in plants of the family Theaceae, esp. the tea plant Camellia sinensis, and is frequently used as a dietary supplement and to treat anxiety.Theanine is l-γ-glutamylethylamide; C2H5(NH)COC2H2C(NH2)COOH. Also with modifying letter distinguishing its two optical isomers: the l-form is naturally-occurring and the d-form occurs in commercially synthesized theanine. ΚΠ 1950 Y.
