单词 | the lord of sabaoth |
释义 | > as lemmasthe Lord of Sabaoth 1. A Hebrew word (lit. ‘armies’, ‘hosts’), retained untranslated in the English New Testament (as in the original Greek and in the Vulgate) and the Te Deum, in the designation the Lord of Sabaoth, for which in the original Old Testament passages the English versions have the rendering ‘The Lord of Hosts’. The Greek and Latin forms being indeclinable, and therefore not easily recognizable as genitives, a frequent early form in English was the Lord Sabaoth.
